My Journey to Temple Chai

The Jewish story is a story of journeying.  Abraham’s leadership began with a journey and we have continued to journey through today.  Toward the beginning of the book of Genesis, God says to Abraham (who was called Abram at that point) “Go from your native land and from your father’s house to the land that I will show you.”  At the beginning of this great journey, Abram left all that was familiar to him to go forward into the unknown.  He does it out of deep faith and trust in God.  Most likely he harbored fears and anxieties about taking his family to “this land that I will show you.”  The story of Abraham going on a journey in partnership with God, to serve as a leader, resonates with me as I begin as the Assistant Rabbi of Temple Chai.
