Volunteer

Temple Chai was founded in 1972 thanks to the tireless efforts of a small group of volunteer families. Volunteerism is at the very heart of the character of Temple Chai and we rely on the dedication of our volunteers to help us run the many programs, classes and events we offer here at our synagogue.

Please consider sharing some of your valuable time with us. Take a moment to review the list of opportunities below as well as our calendar, our list of committees and our Board of Trustees. There are so many places where we could use your head, heart and time.

Please contact Executive Director Larry Glickman with any questions.

Caring Community Remembrance Bags
Sunday, September 7th, 9:00 AM
Each year, Caring Community reaches out to members who have lost a loved one since last Rosh Hashana. We will meet at the temple to pack and deliver the remembrance bags. If you are able to help with this mitzvah, please contact Susan Millstone at 847-459-0889 or dmillstone@comcast.net.

High Holiday Food Packing for Maot Chitim
Sunday, September 14th
We need many volunteers to help with the mitzvah of "gathering wheat" as we pack food for delivery to the needy. Please email Marla Grabell at bmbj323@aol.com for details. We will also need volunteers to help deliver these boxes of holiday food on Sunday, September 21st.

Wanted: Ambassadors for Temple Chai
We are launching the "New Member Ambassadors/Kehillah" (community) program to add a personal component to welcoming and engaging new members to Temple Chai. We will connect existing members with new members so they can more quickly feel a part of the Temple Chai family. This is an important role so a training session will be provided. If you and your family are interested, please contact Cathy Schwartz at 847-537-1771 x 230 or Sandi Firsel.

Your Temple Needs You!
Do you have free time on your hands and skills to share? Are you looking for a way to get involved? Temple Chai is working to create a volunteer corps to work with our office staff. Jobs could range from answering the phone to large photocopying projects to helping with getting mailings out the door to working with our Sunday school staff, just to name a few. Please contact Director of Member Services Cathy Schwartz at cschwartz@templechai.org with your questions or availability.

Caring Community
The Caring Community is comprised of a group of dedicated and caring Temple Chai congregants. The mission of this group is to assist our family of congregants in times of need as well as to help celebrate their mitzvahs. We hope to let our members know that their temple family is thinking of them and is here to help them when they are faced with difficult challenges. Some mitzvahs that we perform include sending condolence cards, assisting at shiva houses, visiting congregants in the hospital, providing meals for a family during a prolonged illness, delivering Remembrance Baskets during the High Holidays for those who have recently lost a loved one and sending congratualtory cards for births and marriages. If you would be interested in joinging this very fulfilling committee, please contact Rabbi Berger.

Help in the Gift Shop - Volunteers Needed!!!
