History

Temple Chai was founded in 1972 by a small group of pioneering families who saw the need to establish an organized Jewish presence in the expanding northwest suburbs. Through their efforts, Temple Chai was born. The goals of Temple Chai from the outset were to encourage Judaism as a way of life and to help each member live life to its fullest potential. Initially, services were held at Tarkington School and were led by a student Rabbi.

By 1980, the congregation had grown and accomplished much as we moved out of our temporary home at Kingswood United Methodist Church and dedicated a beautiful new facility in Long Grove, Illinois.

Our mission is to foster and maintain the principles of Reform Judaism by serving the diverse spiritual, educational and cultural needs of our congregants within a caring and supportive environment.
